4 Ways to Stay Motivated

Staying motivated in these uncertain times is not something many people have the luxury to achieve. It is a state of mind where it is often easier said than done. When the whole world is suffering from a pandemic for more than a year, self-motivation is highly crucial to keep going.

While it is essential to stay motivated, you should know whether it is positive or negative motivation. Positive motivation can lead you to impact your mental and physical health positively; negative motivation is detrimental to you.

How to know if you are positively or negatively motivated?

To determine whether your motivation is positive or negative, ask yourself why you need to complete a task? Is it because you want to complete it for yourself, or do you have to complete it otherwise, you will face a negative backlash from others?

While positive motivation makes you feel accomplished and happy, negative motivation can have harmful effects on your mental state. So, before being self-motivated, you need to identify which one it is.

How can you stay motivated?

To stay motivated every day, here are some things you can do:

a.    Setting goals: Set your goals for each day, no matter how small or big it is. When you set goals to achieve something before the end of a day, you feel the urge to complete it as soon as possible. It also gives you a sense of accomplishment every time you complete it.

b.   Plan ahead: If you don’t know what to do first, you need to plan. Use a planner and plan for the next day in bullet points. Prioritise the tasks from most to least important. If there is a task that you don’t like doing, do it first. Once the task is finished, strike it off from the bullet list.

c.    Stay Organised: Declutter your workstation. Remove all the unnecessary paper, empty pens and useless items from your workplace. Once you have a clean place to work, you will quickly feel attracted and motivated to complete your tasks for the day.

d.   Reward yourself: At the end of the day, if you have completed all the tasks as you have planned, reward yourself with your favourite food or something nice. It is an excellent way to acknowledge all the things you have achieved and feel accomplished.

Staying motivated is easy when you know how to celebrate your work and achieve your goals every day, no matter how big or small it is.
