When looking for a list of the greatest triple-A games, you rarely see any Indian game’s inclusion. But a small glance over the indie game development scene in India tells us that India has a lot to offer to the gaming industry, in general. Given that console or PC gaming is still considered a luxury in various parts of India, it is interesting to see how indies are trying to thrive based only on creative energy and hope to reach more audiences.
Most indie titles tend to fly under the radar because of poor marketing strategy, or even worse, because of the absence of a marketing plan. But these indies probably have done a proper marketing job, which is why they are on my radar. And I have the chance to share a look at 5 such indie games from India with you all.
- Raji: An Ancient Epic
Word has it that the developers almost went bankrupt while producing the game, but after the release, we can say it was worth it after the release. While the brief gameplay was reviewed as average or above average, the artwork inspired by medieval Rajasthan and the music is top-notch. It deserves separate applause altogether.
Raji is an action-adventure game inspired by Hindu and Balinese mythology, which explores the story of Raji, a girl who is trying to rescue her brother on Rakhsha Bandhan.
- Asura: Vengeance Edition
Not necessarily based on stories of Indian mythology, but Asura makes the second on the list of games inspired by Indian mythology. While Asura didn’t make much noise during its release, many people have enjoyed the gameplay with the great combats.
Asura: Vengeance Edition is an action rogue-like game that has been reviewed positively as a promising debut.

- Gonne Wrong
Although Gonne wrong is yet to be released, we can tell that we will love the visuals. We will have realistic graphics and bloody gameplay from what we deducted from the trailer, as this is a zombie shooter we are talking about.
Gonne Wrong is a single-player FPS shooter, and not much of the story is known yet.
- Alter Army
To be releasing a game successfully in your teen years is a big achievement. Alter Army is one such example. What started with fun and just practice, the Alter Army developers were only 16 when they released their fast-paced 2D platformer.
The developers of Alter Army were taking inspiration from Risk Of Rain and Nuclear Throne.
- Rainswept
Rainswept is not just a game but a visual story. For a 2D game, the art is pretty impressive. With a really intense game world and developed characters, Rainswept includes elements like murder and trauma.
Rainswept is an adventure murder mystery game filled with exciting puzzles and a convincing soundtrack.
As we have reached the end of our list of indie games, it is safe to say, judging from how they have fared (or yet to), that the Indian indie game industry is going to flourish. However, it is a challenge for now. Many people prefer indie games because they are way more affordable and provide decent gameplay that one can play within a few hours.
