India is currently preparing to roll out the emergency administration of the COVID vaccines after the authorization. Although the United States of America and the United Kingdom are yet to start administering the vaccines to their citizens, both the governments in the countries are to give their full approval to the vaccines. Their permission is only for a short period and a temporary supply. Among all the other news, there is a lot of information surrounding their effectiveness and if they have any side effects after use.
Moderna COVID-10 vaccine in the US
The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine mentions upfront that it might not be able to protect everyone. Although the vaccine is an unapproved one, it had shown to prevent signs of COVID-19 when it was administered to people. Moderna is effective after being given twice, each at a month apart. The duration for which it stays effective against Coronavirus is still unknown, and it may even cause severe and unpredictable side-effects to the users.
Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine
The vaccine is to be administered to people of 16 years of age only for protection against COVID-19. Like the vaccine in the United States, this one claims that it may not fully protect one from the virus. The information regarding the performance of the vaccine on weakened immune systems is unknown too. The vaccine also lists a few side effects such as high fever, severe illness, a weakened immune system, etc.
The information about correct usage and side effects is the kind of information that India will need too. To have chances of fighting the virus, we need communication of important instructions even more than before.
